A couple months ago a buddy and me took an afternoon to go shoot some photos at this popular surfing spot close to home. Although I didn’t get the photo I was going for since it wasn’t the right time for it, I did take advantage of a lamp pointed at the sea from the restaurant just next to us to play around and try to shoot a self-portrait with a starry sky.
Moonlight exposed my side of the photo, but there weren’t many options for angles in order to get the lamp-lit sea so I had to go with frontal (moon)lighting, which I rarely find favorable for photos. Still it was fun to play around and try nailing the exposure, the focus, jumping onto the rock in time to stay still for the exposure, counting the right seconds before moving, and staying perfectly still during the whole exposure, all at the same time.
It took quite a few tries, but at last I got something decent (and a good workout!) and it was pretty fun.
